William W. Wood account books, 1835-1886 (bulk 1835-1866).

Two account books associated with William W. Wood, a cotton commission merchant with the firm of Purvis, Wood, and Co. of New Orleans, La. The first is a fragmentary ledger containing accounts for 1835-1836 and 1844-1846; an alphabetical list of planters, probably clients, and their addresses in North Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas; and a few journal and letter-book entries for 1846-1847 and 1886. The second is a cashbook of Silas Wood and later William W. Wood containing records of personal and business expenditures and purchases made at New Orleans, Memphis, Tennessee, and Covington (La.?), 1843-1849; worksheets for laborers showing location and amount of timber cut, 1856; and statements of account for supplies with James Dunning, 1857, and Solomon Johnston, 1866.
